Sometimes, being stuck in a regular job is no fun
When you work for someone else, essentially what you are doing is spending a lot of your time earning a profit for someone else. When you have been doing the same job for a number of years, it starts to become a bit boring and routine doesn’t it? The same thing, day in, day out, with just a moderate paycheck at the end of the week/month to show for it.
Alarm clocks are awful aren’t they?
Even for people who are naturally early risers, it’s still not nice to be suddenly shaken awake by the annoying sound of your alarm. Then you have to rush to get yourself ready, then head out the door while you’re still half asleep.
Isn’t rush hour traffic a nightmare?
As if going to work wasn’t bad enough in itself, everyone has to do it at the same time. So not only are you rushing to work while still wishing you were in bed, you get stuck behind queues of other cars at endless traffic lights.
Once, years ago, I tried to drive to work in snow, and it took me 3 times longer than normal. When I got to work, my boss didn’t seem to understand. She reacted like I should have made more of an effort somehow. So it’s okay that I nearly slid into the back of another car?
It sucks when you hate your job
Okay, so when you do a job, you are getting paid money for doing it. It’s called work for a reason. But if your job doesn’t genuinely interest you, it can be hard to stay motivated. How is it possible to be enthusiastic about stacking shelves in Walmart or doing mindless data entry in some dull back office? Sometimes it would just be nice to be doing something you’re actually interested in for once, right?
The people you work with can be so annoying!
As if doing a boring job wasn’t bad enough, sometimes you just can’t stand the people you’re forced to share your workspace with. I once worked with a guy who seemed unable to have any kind of sensible conversation. Everything out of his mouth would be sarcastic or some kind of wise crack. And he was really physically lazy and would complain any time he had to get up out of his chair to go get something from across the room. I’m so glad I don’t work with him anymore!
Then there are workplace bullies. You know the sort of people who just enjoy winding other people up and finding ways to get at you. They’ll look for anything about you that they can pick at, and they will tease you and make you feel less than them. At least you can know that they are only behaving like that because they feel insecure in themselves.
Wouldn’t you love to have more money and time to travel?
If you worked for yourself, you might be able to earn more money; but you would also be able to work to your own timetable. You wouldn’t need to ask permission to take a vacation. Heck, you could even work while away. As long as you have a laptop connected to the internet, you’re good to go. This would totally change the way you work. No more being stuck at the same desk all the time.
