Many people talk about earning money on eBay. Of course, there is a lot of money to be made from buying and selling products on eBay. However, what a lot of people probably don’t realise is that it is possible to earn quite a lot of money from eBay without touching any products at all.
By referring people to eBay as an affiliate. eBay actually have their own affiliate program called the eBay Partner Network.
About the eBay Partner Network
As you can see, it’s really quite simple. If you have a popular website, you can link through to products on eBay. When customers buy from eBay after having clicked through from your website, you earn a commission.
The possibilities are almost endless. eBay is one of the most popular websites on the internet, with millions of products being bought and sold every day of the year. It’s actually quite easy claim a good slice of this very big pie, if you know what you are doing.
eBay Partner Network Tips
There are lots of things you can do to improve your chances of success with the eBay Partner Network. Here are some key tips:
- Choose a good niche for your website topic (more on this below).
- Regularly create great content that informs and helps your visitors. Make sure it is unique and well written. Definitely don’t copy and paste from other website.
- Link to custom eBay pages that contain specific related products.
- Display live listings on your site. This will keep your content fresh and up-to-date.
- Keep it real and genuine – stay away from spammy promotion and SEO tactics. These will only harm your site in the long run.
How To Decide On A Niche
Step 1: Think of something you are interested in
Try to think of a topic that you are interested in that there are likely to be products for. It could be anything at all, but it needs to be something you are interested in so that you have genuine enthusiasm for writing about the topic; and it needs to have products that people genuinely want to buy, so that you can make sales and earn money.
Step 2: Check on eBay to see if there are products
I make music, so something I am interested in is music software. Simply typing “music software” into eBay brings up a whole bunch of results, for example:
- Steinberg Cubase
- Mixcraft Pro Studio
- Propellerhead Reason
- Finale PrintMusic
- JABB (Jazz And Big Band)
- Logic Audio
The list is quite large, and these are all products I could write reviews for.
Step 3: Also check on Amazon
You don’t have to restrict your research just to eBay. You can also look on Amazon. Product listings change constantly on both eBay and Amazon, so it’s worth checking both. For example, a quick search on Amazon brings up:
- MAGIX Music Maker
- Sony ACID Music Studio
- Samplitude Music Studio
- FL Studio Producer
- Crescendo Music Notation Software
- Pro Tools
Again, the list just goes on, and these are all great things to write content for on your website.
Step 4: Dig down if necessary
You may decide that you want to specilise in a more specific topic. I could narrow this down to a specific type of music software. For example, I may want to focus just on software that’s good for making electronic dance music. Or I may decide that I want to split a general music software site into subtopics with different sections of the site focusing on each type.
It largely depends on what you’re interested in and how specific you want to be with your niche. It also depends on how many products there are.
Step 5: Repeat until you find something worth creating a website about
You may find that the first time you do the above steps you don’t find a niche with enough products, or maybe you change your mind and decide to try something else you are more interested in. Try researching several completely different topics and see what comes up. Keep going until you get a good balance between something you are interested in and something that has lots of products people are looking to buy.
How To Build A Profitable Niche Website
There are several key things you need to build a profitable niche website:
- A good niche (as described above)
- A good website
- Great keywords (low competition)
- Write great content on those keywords (product reviews and related topics).
Now let’s take a look at each of these topics in a bit more detail.
A good website
In the early days of the web, creating a website was a more complicated and long-winded process. These days, thanks to WordPress, creating a great looking website is super easy, and super easy to maintain. I have written a full article about How to Build a Website.

Write great content on those keywords
If you are writing product reviews, you need to make sure you make your reviews very thorough. You need to provide your visitors with everything they need to know about the product. So make sure you do your research and find out everything you can about the product first.
Of course you will need to cover all the facts about the product, but don’t stop there. You also need to cover what previous customers think about the product. Be totally honest. If a lot of people have complained about the product, you can give it a low rating and recommend a better alternative. A great place to find real customer opinions on products is Amazon, which brings me nicely onto my next topic…
How to Promote Amazon Products on Your Blog
Writing reviews for Amazon products is really just the same as it is for eBay. The same types of products get bought and sold on both websites, so it’s really the same process. The Amazon affilite program is called Amazon Associates.
