The world wide web is just full of people looking to buy stuff, and Amazon is one of the biggest online shops in the world. They sell everything! I mean everything! Well, okay, maybe not cars or houses, but loads of other things.
The truly great thing is, if you can put up a website and write about products, you can get a slice of Amazon’s big money pie. Once you’ve learned how to do it, it’s actually quite easy to do. It does take the time to build up initially, but it’s well worth it because as it builds you can earn more and more money.

How To Decide On A Niche
Finding a niche is really quite easy when it comes to promoting Amazon products. There are really just two key criteria that your niche needs to meet:
- It must something you are genuinely interested in.
- There must be products that people want to buy.
Step 1 – go to Amazon.com
Since you want to promote Amazon products, it makes sense to start there. The great thing is, Amazon is so well organized that it really does a lot of the work for you.
Step 2 – Click on “Shop by Department”
Here you can see that Amazon has organized all their products into different sections.
Step 3 – Find a section that interests you, e.g. Electronics
Here you can see that Electronics & Computers is broken down into various categories. They’ve got everything from TVs and home theaters to laptops and musical instruments. Pretty much anything electronic, they’ve got it on Amazon.
Step 4 – Choose a category, e.g. Camera & Photo
Let’s just say you are interested in photography and therefore know a lot about cameras. If something like that genuinely interests you, it is a great category to choose because there will definitely be a lot of popular products in there.
Step 5 – Narrow it down further, e.g. Digital Cameras
Over 32 thousand digital cameras on Amazon. See, if you choose something like this then you will never run out of products to review on your site.
Step 6 – Decide on a camera type, e.g. Digital SLRs
As long as it’s a category that you are interested in that contains popular products, it’s a good niche. Once you’ve decided on your niche, it’s time to build your website.
How to Build a Website Free
if you don’t have a website up and running yet, there are many different places where you can create a free one. This is great when you are first starting out because it doesn’t cost you anything. For more information on how to build a website, please see my in-depth article on the subject:
Amazon Associates Affiliate Program
Of course, you will need to join the Amazon Associates affiliate program. This mean you will be able to get paid by Amazon anytime someone buys a product after clicking on one of your links.
HOWEVER, you do need an established website before Amazon will accept you into their program. So if you are just starting out, you will need to set up your website as described above, then continue with the rest of the steps listed here and apply to Amazon Associates once you have some good content on your site.
Find Products To Review
Once you have the foundation of your website set up, you need to find products to write reviews for. Obviously, Amazon is the best place to find these.
Click on Best Sellers, then dig down to Digital SLRs
Do you see what I mean about Amazon doing most of the work for you? By looking at the best sellers, you will already have a bunch of products that people are already buying. This means it will be super easy to get even more people to buy these products. There’s really no need to over-think this, it’s really quite straightforward.
You can also search by rating from the Camera & Photo category
As you can see, there are 786 digital SLRs rated 4 stars or higher. This still gives you plenty of great products to write reviews for. In fact, even if you managed to write reviews for all 786 of them, there would be new products by then, so you still wouldn’t run out of them.
But it’s also good to review badly rated products
Don’t restrict your reviews just to highly rated products. It is also worth picking out some badly rated products to review as well. Why? Because people may still be searching for information on these products, so that is still targeted traffic to your website.
If you write an honest review for a badly rated product, this looks more genuine than if all the products on your website were highly rated. Also, you can then recommend an alternative product instead. So if Camera A has only a 3-star rating, but Camera B has the same features but is better, you can advise them to take a look at Camera B instead.
How To Find Great Keywords
Keyword research is an important part of internet marketing. Although it is tempting to just go straight for Product Name Review as your keyword, it is better to take a bit of time to find the best keyword to use. You want to find a keyword that gets some searches but is very low competition, meaning that not many other websites are trying to rank in Google for that keyword.
The best tool for finding high ranking keywords
Here I have used the wonderful keyword tool Jaaxy to search for keywords related to the Canon EOS Rebel T5:
As you can see, the second keyword in the list has only 10 QSR – Quoted Search Results. This is how many other web pages in Google have that exact phrase on them. Anything below 100 is easy to rank for. Anything below 10 you are almost certain to get onto page 1 of Google, as long as your website and content are of a high quality.
Of course, you can do this kind of keyword research manually using other methods, for example using the Google Keyword Tool and then manually searching in Google in quotation marks. In fact, for total beginners with no money to spare, that’s probably the best way to do keyword research.
But for anyone who is really short on time, who just needs to find great keywords like YESTERDAY, then Jaaxy is well worth taking a look at.
How To Write Product Reviews
This is how I would construct a product review. First, at the top you need an image of the product along with a summary section listing the essential information such as:
- Rating – how many stars
- Brief Product Specifications – size, weight, etc.
- Who’s it for? – Just very briefly state this, e.g. professional photographer, enthusiastic amateurs.
Then I would have detailed sections beneath that, such as:
- Detailed Description – here you could introduce the product and describe its main features. If there are there are a lot of really good features, maybe create subheadings for each one and write a short paragraph about each.
- Pros & Cons – make sure you list the bad things as well as the good things.
- What Previous Customers Say – paraphrase the things people liked and disliked about this product. Maybe include some screenshots of the actual comments on Amazon, but don’t just copy and paste the actual text as this will be seen by Google as duplicate content.
- Who’s it For? – go into detail about who would benefit most from this product.
- Related Accessories – for example, if it’s a camera, what lenses would fit it?
- Other Similar Products – you will usually find there are multiple variations on the same type of product.
Top writing tip – write conversationally
Writing is easy when you know how. Once you have your blog post split into sections like those listed above, you should just write conversationally. It just needs to be friendly and written in plain English for the average person to read.
One great way to do this is, for each section, imagine that a friend has emailed you asking for you to explained to them that subtopic. Then pretend you are just writing a helpful email back to your friend. Of course, you need to polish it up and make sure it has good spelling and grammar.
